INTRODUCTION TO PERSONAL FITNESS
This course serves as an introduction to the field of physical fitness and exercise program design. Students will participate in a variety of lab experiences and projects designed to better understand the proper execution and prescription of exercise. Students will be instructed in proper exercise safety and screening procedures and become proficient in determining and monitoring their physical fitness status. Students will be tasked with developing proper resistance training, cardiovascular training, flexibility, and muscular strength & power programs. Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and competence to conduct fitness assessments and to design exercise programs for various populations.


PRINCIPLES OF EXERCISE SCIENCE
Principles of Exercise Science is a college-level course that explores the science of exercise and movement by understanding how the human body responds and adapts to athletic training, conditioning & physical activity. This knowledge is then applied to personal health, fitness, and athletic performance in variety of ways that incorporates scientific methodology, human anatomy, physiology, physics and chemistry. Topics of emphasis include exercise physiology, metabolism, athletic injury, biomechanics, exercise prescription and fitness evaluation. This course includes both traditional classroom instruction, combined with various hands-on skills and laboratory experiences. The laboratory portion will include measurement and fitness assessment, such as measurement of body composition, evaluation of aerobic and anaerobic power, flexibility, exercise prescription and fitness evaluation.

FOOD & NUTRITION
This course serves as an introduction to the basic principles of nutrition and wellness. The focus of the course is centered on healthy food preparation and lifestyle choices. The goal is to enhance student awareness of personal food choices, and provide necessary consumer skills essential for a healthy diet. Furthermore, the course will provide opportunities for students to explore factors that impact lifelong health and wellness, including food safety, food preparation and recipe evaluation. Students will participate in a variety of food labs where they will prepare and evaluate food choices. In addition, students will understand basic etiquette, manners, and table setting in the context of meal design and preparation.
